Volunteer Opportunity

Dear sisters & brothers in Christ,

I pray that you are blessed and doing well. From the empty pews I am guessing that many of you, like me, are taking advantage of these last weeks of summer to escape up North or spend a bit of time at the lake. I hope you got as much rest as I. In between days of rest I was able to see a bit more of The U.P. Besides visiting Pictured Rocks again, I got up to Copper Harbor on the Keweenaw Peninsula, as well as, The Porcupine Mountains. As most of you know, it is a very beautiful part of our country.

Most of you probably remember the bags for children that we had in the back of church just prior to Covid. We are planning on bringing those back. The bags will once again contain such items as: stuffed animals, books, coloring pages and crayons. As far as Covid is concerned, it appears that it is primarily transmitted through the air. Also, experts say that Covid germs die within 48 hours, and our bags will have at least a week between uses. Finally, if any parents are still uncomfortable they, of course, always have the option of bringing their own toys.

I am looking for a few volunteers who would be willing to organize these bags and then go through them each week and prepare them to be used again. The coloring sheets would need to be restocked and the crayons might need to be replaced. Some items might also need to be cleaned. We plan on having a couple racks where the bags can hang in the back of church. We will then keep the extra bags in one of the closets in the vestibule or in the West confessional. If you are interested in helping with this please call and leave your name and contact information with our office. I am sure our parents and their children will be grateful.

In the Redeemer, Fr. Rick
