Spring

Dear sisters & brothers in Christ,

I pray that you are blessed. I also hope your Lenten pilgrimage is being spiritually fruitful. Lent is always a busy time in parishes, and while that can normally be a stressful time for the pastoral staff, in light of the pandemic restrictions, it has actually been nice seeing a more active parish. We have, of course, been having some of the traditional Lenten activities like Stations of The Cross, Exposition of The Blessed Sacrament, and a Reconciliation service.

I believe we have all been happy to see the return of The Fish Fry and other traditional events here at St. Al’s. I have spent some of my time at the Fish Fries visiting with people in line, and most people I speak with share that sentiment. They are happy and thankful to have it back, even non-parishioners.

The St. Patrick’s Day Dance was another such event. Those who came had a genuinely good time. It was especially nice to just hang out with parishioners and friends and just have some fun. What could be more Irish? It was also great to have those who will be Confirmed dress up as their Saint and do presentations about them. These types of activities, as well as, more and more people returning to active ministries is just a sign of a healthy and active parish. “Normal” is not a word I like to use, after all, what is “normal” about St. Alphonsus? Regardless, I hope you are feeling more comfortable attending Mass and these other activities.

If you haven’t already done so, I also hope you are contemplating what ministry or ministries you can get involved with. There are certainly plenty to choose from and we need your help if St. Alphonsus is going to thrive once again. If you put something on your census form but haven’t heard back from anyone, then I invite you to reach out to them. You can always call the office and get contact information or a meeting schedule.

Spring is all about life! We see it all around us. What better time for us to come to life again. Shake off the weariness and step into The Light. Listen, and hear where your Lord is calling you to be. And then simply respond, “Yes Lord, here I am, send me!”

In the Redeemer, Fr. Rick
