The Way

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

I pray that you are blessed and well. I cannot believe it is already August. These last couple of months have flown by. At a recent video meeting of Redemptorists pastors one thing we all agreed upon, as strange as it sounds, is that we are more busy now then before this pandemic began. However, we are learning new ways to preach The Gospel, and even new ways to be Church. As I have previously mentioned, we are establishing a few new ministries here at St. Alphonsus. One of them is the online ministry. We realize that there are countless ways to use the internet to help meet people’s spiritual needs, as well as, grow and strengthen our community. So if you would like to be involved in some way, or if you have ideas please let us know. We cannot promise to do everything, but we will continue to try and offer a variety of material.

In our modern world with our busy lives and so many demands, it can sometimes be difficult to decide which is the path we should take. So many people claim to know what is best for us. While others play on our weaknesses. Some decisions can truly be difficult. In our first reading today, our Lord breaks it down and gives us a map that will always keep us on The Way. “Observe what is right, do what is just.” If we only learn to take a moment to reflect on these two guideposts, our conscience will almost always lead us in the right direction.

Speaking of taking a journey, while I am still hoping to get away to the U.P. for a few days of photography, due to the epidemic none of us Redemptorists will be taking a regular vacation. Instead we decided to spend last week and this coming week in a “stay-cation.” We will still be here for mass and emergencies, but if it can wait until next week we would appreciate it. As far me personally, if anyone has some ideas on a safe pace to stay in the U.P. and things to see I’d appreciate the suggestions. My initial thoughts were to go to Picture Rocks, but I’m not sure if I want to go that far on this trip, so others suggestions would be welcomed.

In the Redeemer, Fr. Rick
