Cornhole Tournament Winners
On Saturday, October 23, 2021, St. Alphonsus’s Parish Life group hosted their 2nd Annual Cornhole Tournament in the parish center.
Echoing sounds of bags hitting boards, the roar of skidding bags sliding towards the hole, and the swishing sound of airmail (bag into the hole without touching sides) could be heard throughout the gymnasium. The smell of popcorn, pretzels, hot dogs, and corndogs wafted throughout. Music blared, children cheered, and old and newly made friends chattered, clinking glasses in celebration of winning points scored.
Teams of two competed in a double elimination tournament. First place was taken by best buddies, Bob Vugteveen and Rob Olsen, second place was Scott Schumaker and Matt Barnes, and third place was David Ross and his son. Winners received bragging rights along with cash prizes: first place ($125.00), second place ($75.00), and third place ($50.00). Additionally, there was an optional shotgun competition, allowing teams to throw all four bags at once, instead of the traditional one bag at a time rule. Father-son team, Jim and Joe Steffens took first place title.
So if you are an avid Cornholer, love the game, the fellowship, and the friendships, we will plan to see you at our next annual cornament!
