Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
With this bulletin letter today, I wish to make the official and public announcement that on April 1, 2018 Gayle Pohl will be leaving St. Alphonsus as our music director. After much reflection with her husband and family, Gayle has decided to resign from this position here at St. Al’s. Gayle’s husband Bob has been diag- nosed with Parkinson’s disease and it is progressing. They have decided that this is the opportune time for her to retire and spend quality time with each other and their families. Please keep Gayle and Bob in your prayers. Please express your appreciation to Gayle for doing her best to handle a difficult and in many ways a thankless job as music director these past 7 years. I pray God’s blessings of deep peace and joy for you, Gayle, and thank you for the giving of your time and talents these past years. So much of what you did was behind the scenes for the cantors and choir. They are grateful I am sure.
This leads me to announce that I have set up a Music Director’s Search Committee. The opening for a Music Director of St. Alphonsus has been posted on the Diocesan website as well as on the National Pastoral Musician’s website. We have received six resumes of potential candidates so far. Our committee will be having interviews with candidates and determining which persons we will want to have further interviews with and inviting them to audition and be present at weekend liturgies.
The following people comprise the Music Director’s Search Committee: Lynn Raczkowski, Heather Jablonski, John Frey, Steve Kozminski, Michelle Ogren , and myself. This is a wonderful group of folks who are very passionate about our liturgical music not only for choirs and ensembles but even more so for the congregational singing at Masses. We ask your prayers that the Lord will help us discern the right person to be our next Director of Music and Liturgy here at St. Al’s!
Praying always with gratitude and hopefulness, Fr. Pat, C.Ss.R.
