Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
During our Sunday liturgies, a practice that we have here at St. Al’s causes some confusion for fellow parishioners and visitors. We have the custom of standing during the singing of the “Great Amen” at the conclusion of the Doxology (Through Him and with Him, etc) sung by the priest. The proper liturgical norm calls for the congregation to remain kneeling during the Doxology and Great Amen both and then to stand for the praying of the Our Father. If you have visited other parishes in the diocese and when traveling you have experienced that practice.
This may take us some time to overcome our rising during the Great Amen. But let us begin the practice of remaining to kneel during the Doxology and Great Amen both and then stand for the praying of the Our Father. Be patient and gentle with yourself and others…..a few smiles will help us along.
Joyfully, Fr. Pat, C.Ss.R.
