Dear Friends in Christ,
The Catholic Relief Services Collection (CRSC) will be taken up in the parishes of our diocese during the weekend of March 25-26, 2017. By participating in this collection, you are responding to the hidden presence of Jesus in some of the most marginalized communities in our world. This collection provides services for immigrants, humanitarian aid in the wake of natural disasters, refuge for the displaced, and advocacy for peace and justice around the world. Let us join together in support of those who are suffering and living on the margins of society.
Our world is in the midst of the largest refugee crisis since World War II. Millions of people, many of them children, have been displaced due to war and persecution. We have seen images of sinking boats full of refugees and babies strapped to their mothers’ backs making long and dangerous treks to safety. Refugees are traveling hundreds of miles from their homes, navigating unfamiliar lands, languages, and cultures in an effort to reach a safer and better life. The CRS collection helps Catholic Relief Services reach out to refugees, providing hope and assistance, education, counseling, and care for children, housing, and other forms of support. Basic necessities are being provided along with urgent medical care and emergency relief for tens of thousands of refugees.
Your support of this collection makes a difference for refugees and many others around the world. Please prayerfully consider how you can support this collection. For additional information on the CRS collection and those whom it benefits, please visit usccb.org/catholic-relief.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend David J. Walkowiak
Bishop of Grand Rapids
