St. Al’s Annual Golf Outing – August 28

The St. Al’s Parish Golf Outing will be held on Saturday, August 28. The cost is $60 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf with cart, dinner and beverages. Gather your friends for a foursome or individuals will be grouped into a foursome. Either way, it will be a day of good golf, good food and a good time for all.

Communion Visits

Brother Andy Patin will be away on sabbatical for six months for a time of prayer, reflection, and a healthy dose of relaxation. Please direct all calls related to the Sick and Aging ministry to PALS or call the Rectory at 451-3043.

Since PALS will be covering Br. Andy’s ministry in his absence, we are in need of people willing to visit and take Communion to the sick and aging. If you need help or would like to help someone, please contact Ann Lepech 447-8159 lepech@sbcglobal.net or Jayne Cotten 363-8225 djcotten1@att.net.

Adult Confirmation Classes

Medical Response Team

Calling all interested medical professionals of St. Alphonsus! Please join us on May 20th at 6:00 pm in the Parish Center Lounge (enter through the doors closest to the Rectory). Holy Land Adventure Registration

St. Alphonsus presents Holy Land Adventure! We will be traveling to Egypt and will visit Joseph. June 14 ~ 18, 2010 from 9:00am to 12:30pm. Registrations due by June 1, 2010. Limit of 120 students. In Memoriam

Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the family of Sister Mary Margaret Miller, O.Ss.R. who died March 19, 2010 at the age of 102 at Liguori, Missouri. She is the sister of deceased Redemptorist Fathers Donald, Raymond, Louis and Ernest Miller and are all originally from St. Alphonsus Parish. May her soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed rest in peace.

RCIA – Rite of Election

Lent marks the final days of preparation for candidates and catechumens who intend to join the Catholic Church on Holy Saturday, April 3. During the Rite of Election celebration on February 21 at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew, Bishop Hurley welcomed and encouraged 18 individuals from St. Alphonsus Parish.

The Power of the Cross CD

Journey through the Triduum with the Choirs of St. Alphonsus in their new CD The Power of the Cross. The CD will be on sale starting on the weekend of February 20 and 21 after all the Masses for $12 each or 3 for $30. All purchases will directly support the Music Ministry at St. Alphonsus.

Lent 2010

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends before the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday. Ash Wednesday is a day of fast and abstinence. All the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence.

Fasting is observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by everyone 18 years of age and older, who has not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day, one full meal is allowed. Two other meals—enough to maintain strength—may be taken, according to each one’s needs. But together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but consuming liquids, including milk and juices, is allowed.

Abstinence is observed on ALL Fridays of Lent by everyone 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed.

Note that when health or the ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. If a person is unable to observe the above regulations due to ill health or other serious reasons, other suitable forms of self denial are encouraged.
